21岁的Olivia Ong来自新加坡，却是在日本走红——19岁的她在日本对新加坡的世界杯亚洲区选拔赛前清唱新加坡国歌，让当时在场观众惊为天人，之后趁势推广唱片，使更多的乐迷了解了这个名字。Olivia迄今一共发行了五张专辑，首张《Precious Stone》和《Tamarillo》是充满Techno和Dance Pop的不折不扣活力四射的流行乐专辑，然后便是她尝试转型之作——半年内相继推出的《A girl meets bossanova》以及《A girl meets bossanova 2》。
　　
　　 Bossa nova产自巴西，自然是葡语歌曲来的“名正言顺”些，但随着向全世界的Jazz迷推广开来，英语作品随之越来越多，Olivia的这两张专辑便皆用英语来演绎的。因为是流行乐出身的，Bossa nova毕竟不是主打，所以以翻唱为主编制的专辑。即便如此，通篇聆听下来，仍然会为其素质之高叹为观止。
　　
　　 《A girl meets bossanova》中，脍炙人口的Bossa nova名曲“Meditation”、“The Girl From Ipanema”和“Quiet Nights and Quiet Stars”等都被重新“Olivia化”，值得一提的是有Bossa nova国歌之称的“Ipanema”。这首韵律感十足的曲子以Stan Getz和Joao Gilberto演奏，Asturd Gilberto演唱的版本最为闻名，除此之外还有无数其他人用各种方式演绎的版本，Olivia的“依帕内玛女孩”在乐器选择上中规中矩，吸引人的是歌声和节奏感。跟传统的Asturd和小野丽莎的慵懒轻柔感不同，与节奏走快的Ella Fitzgerald和Gabriela Anders也不同，如果说前两者的“Ipanema”听起来犹如巴西海滩上吹过的温暖沁人的清风，后两者好比热情奔放的摇摆舞，那么Olivia的版本则更给人沐浴在绿洲，清爽酣畅之感。由此也可见一斑，她对其他曲子的再编全都融入了自己的这种风格，节奏明快，轻松活泼却又不失该有的淳淳拉丁味。
　　
　　 回过头说说这张专辑中的“流行乐Bossanova化”，这才是Olivia厉害之处。在没听过这张专辑之前，你能想像Jennifer Lopez的“Feelin' so good”这么跃动的舞曲能用jazz表现么？Olivia给出了肯定的答案。前头一阵干净明快的Solo后，是她充满活力的歌声，“I'm feeling so good~ I knew I would be taking care of myself ~ Like I should 'Cause not one thing can bring me down……”夜晚八点的音乐喷泉一般，流光溢彩之中，将一个个清脆的音符涌了出来。另一首翻唱自瑞典乐队The Cardigans的“Love fool”同样动听，让一个没听过原曲的人欣赏，没准真认为是地地道道的Bossa nova曲子。
　　
　　 尽管分成前后两张，但《A girl meets bossanova 2》就像是同一张唱片的B面一样，同样以翻唱为主，同样的“流行乐Bossanova化”，只是较之前一张听起来更为熟捻和得心应手。来自Sade的“Kiss Of Life”，Nat King Cole 的“L-O-V-E”，Jobim的“How Insensitive”……在这些大师作品前，Olivia闲庭信步，随意的咏出一句句歌词，用钉子打入你的大脑深处，难以释怀。值得一提的是，结尾曲是用日语来演唱的来自日本天后级歌手松田圣子的“Sweet Memories”。
　　
　　 两张专辑中，很明显的是以Olivia的声音为主导，这是与传统Bossa nova乃至Jazz强调乐器和歌声并重有别的一点，由此也可看出Olivia歌声之不同凡响。伴奏只是维持背景基调，她轻柔甜美的声线才是主调。跟日本以往的Bossa nova女歌手譬如小野丽莎、铃木重子这些沿袭自传统巴西风的慵懒略带沙哑的音色还是有所差别的，或者说，这才是Olivia单凭声音就能得到那么多人喜欢的原因。
